This was SO good. I hated it and swore I’d put it down- and then it was midnight… I took a few days off, but it was calling me. Last night it kept me up until close to 2. THAT’S a well written piece of art.
When he came in at 3:00 to tell me he had a bad dream, I walked him back to bed and laid with him. He didn’t conk right back out this time. He wanted to snuggle… really hard. ![]()

As I laid there, I reminded myself that someday he won’t need me like this. I felt his hair under my chin and listened for the even sleepy breathing that didn’t come. He squeezed my hand with fingers that were SO teeny not long ago- and now write and tie shoes. ![]()
He flopped and twisted - so unsettled; and rolled into the tightest ball, pressing his knees to my front, head into my chest, finally starting to breathe more evenly.![]()

And after I was sure he must be asleep, he wiggled again, looking up through heavy eyes and asked, “mom, do you know how to get the bad dream picture off eyeballs?” 🥹![]()
